STUDY GUIDE
If you follow the arc of the handle of big Dipper (Ursa Major), it will lead you to a bright orange star Called Arcturus.  Once you are there, you can spin off to a bright blue star called Spica.  It is 2000 times brighter than the Sun.  The Pointer stars in the cup of the Big Dipper, point to the pole star, Polaris.  If you go the opposite direction the pointer stars will lead you to a backward question mark pattern of stars that is Leo the Lion.  Draco the dragon is a pattern of stars that winds around between the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper.
The Big Dipper is an asterism in the constellation Ursa Major (The Great Bear).  The Little Dipper is an asterism in the constellation Ursa Minor (The Little Bear).  The first 3 weeks of the lunar cycle, the Moon spells out the letters DOC.  The first quarter is shaped like a D, the full moon is shaped like an O and the third quarter is shaped like the letter C.  Castor and Pollux are stars that make up the heads of the Gemini Twins and Betelgeuse is a super red giant star in the arm pit of Orin the Hunter.  The hunter's dog is represented by the bright white star, Sirius.
